Custom fields are great tool you can use to extend our resources and help keep your data organized. 

Every business has different requirements, so we give you the basic and common fields to get started.  But let's say you wanted to keep track of a date of birth (DOB) for your customers.  Use custom fields to do that.

You create your custom field schema once.  Then, you can use custom fields within our API and user interface (they appear as regular fields within our app).

Adding a Custom Field

Go to the settings -> custom fields.  Then click the button to add a custom field.

You can add a custom field to a variety of our resources.  Our example with DOB will add it to the "Customers" resource.  

You also have a variety of field types to choose between based on the type of data the field will hold.  Our DOB is a date type of field.

Next, you pick your field label which will be how it is displayed inside of our app (and how it is used inside of our API too).  And finally, you can add an optional description, which will be displayed inside of our app too.

Using the Custom Fields

I added a custom field to the "customers" resource.  I will see it displayed on the customers detail screen and customer form.

If I go to the create customer form, I will see my custom field at the bottom of the form, as highlighted in this picture.

I will also see it on the Customer Details screen, and it can be used within the search filters (used in the Rules Engine, Lists, and Reports).
